Nike FuelBand

So, I recently did a post about the Niek FuelBand and a nother body step tracking wrist band.
and then my mind started going...
I Want it.
I NEED It.
I have to have it!
Its all I could think about.

and so I found one. and Bought it!
Hello, my name is Michelle. And I am a Gadget Whore.

Unwrapping it and hooking it up to my computer was pure excitement. And there are lots of little led lights that excite me even more.

Once you download and update all your info, the band syncs and says -GO!- in flashing led lights. Soooo pretty. Im like a moth to a flame with this thing.

So far - Loving it.
I showed a few co-workers my new gadget too, and they were wowed by it too. Its awe-inspiring.  and makes me feel cool. (haha, I know Im so lame)

Proud to be a Gadget Whore.

I believe my hubby is personally timing the days until I get tired of it and it starts collecting dust on the shelf.

We will see about that.

Cool Gadgets for Activity Tracking

I was searchign Pedometers for a work project when I can accross the Nike FuelBand and then the BodyMedia Band

Both of these items promote Active living, Set Goals, track steps and calories burned.
Both are a bit pricy. But both are pretty cool.

The Nike FeulBand had less positive reviews and people seemed unhappy with the accuracy of the tracking records.

I love the look of the Nike FuelBand myself over the BodyMedia, but if I was to buy based on reviews, I would probably pick the BodyMedia.

My Whole30 Program #2

This is the first time I'm attempting the Whole30 program, and my second post relating to my adventures in the Whole30.

I've always been envious of people who have lunch hour fitness-work-breaks paid for by their employers. I often do not find time for lunch in my job either.

I've started what I like to call the Break-time-marathon. When I get a down period in my day, I take a break and hit the road!  This is my get fit during work plan; which incorporates activities into my work day to help live a healthier lifestyle, and helps me feel good and take necessary time outs for stress relief.

One thing I already do (and blogged about here) is sit on my exercise ball instead of a chair.

I have now added the Break-time-marathon to my day: Walking a loop that takes about 15-20 minutes depending on your speed (hardly a marathon. I know. I just like the name). It has the prefect up hill and down hill sections, where you can walk either uphill at the beginning or down hill at the beginning depending on how fast you want to start your walk or end it.

Today I did the loop in 17 minutes at a brisk but smooth pace. And I was smiling from ear to ear when I walked back into the office. I really feel rejuvenated. The sun was shining and the wind was blowing, cool and breezy.

There is a corner store at the mid-point of my walk where I like to pick up Vitamin Water(it's my weird guilty pleasure which started during one of my trips to NYC in 2008). I'm not sure if this is much better than juice, but I sure do love it. I wonder if this stuff meets the Whole30 criteria lists...

Whole 30 Challenge

The

I'm still alive. But life has been particularly hard this past week.
In short, I spent some quality time in the hospital having lots of blood work done and feeling like utter crap. and now it's time for a big life change.

I'm starting with this: the Whole 30 Challenge. It's about eating clean and feeling rejuvenated.
This should be easy compared to the other things I will be soon giving up. One of them being roller derby. I've been told I can play for 1 more month, and then... if I want to be healthy in my life choices, I need to take a roller-break. *insert sadface here*

All things must come to an ... end... just for a little while.
Now I must find new ways to fill my time. So The Whole 30 Challenge will be an inspiring start to new things.

What new things should I add to my life list?
-my Hubby's work have a great Scuba Diving course. I'm going to try this I think.
- I am going to join Pump Classes at my gym, and do some light weight lifting to build up my muscles.
- I might take up a new craft. still not sure what this should be. Maybe jewelry making?

Excercise Ball for the Office

I replaced my office chair with an excercise ball, as I was having lower back pain from stress.
Also, sitting for 8 hours a day is hard on anyone's posture. AND, You burn more calories on a ball compared to a chair!

It instantly got great reviews from Co-workers. My boss even said "Everyone should have one!"
It definitly helps lower the back pain I was feeling. And it's fun! I just bounce all day long.

I still have a chair at my deck for customers to sit in, and sometimes bounce from ball to chair, as my ball is a bit low for my desk. If you are going to get one, I reccommend getting the biggest size available. My ball is 65cm. They go up to 88cm I believe, but bigger also costs more.

I found this info about Calories Burned from  Livestrong.com:

Calories Burned

How many calories you actually burn while sitting on the ball depends on what you're doing. According to Harvard Health Publications, desk work burns about 106 calories per hour if you weigh 135 lbs., and about 156 calories per hour if you weigh 185 lbs. Apply the 6-percent increase for sitting on an exercise ball and you can expect to burn about 112 to 165 calories per hour during office work on the ball.

Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/310665-calories-burned-sitting-on-an-exercise-ball/#ixzz2H1HM7x67

Sometimes it's hard because the ball takes more energy to move for files on my desk and to turn around. a Definite core work out at all times.

They Also have a Chair for your ball which would make rolling around a bit easier. How fun!

Fit Fix 2013

It's time to shred a bit.
I totally gained 15 pounds over the holidays - no lie! - from drinking too much Baileys, and eating way to much yummy goodies. I totally abandoned all workouts and just got gosh darn chubby!

My friend and I have started WeightWatchers together. Well, She was already doing it, I just jumped on her band wagon and am sucking all her knowledge about the program for free :p

I'm pretty pumped about it tho. and we have total commitment to each other to make it work.

Here's our plan:
Goal = to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week.
Once we get through the first month, we will revise and set a bigger goal.
Weigh in day is on Wednesday each week.
Workouts are 30 minutes 5 times a week - minimum.
Drink lots of Water! 2 Liters a day.

and the part I absolutely love about the Weight Watchers 360 program is the all Fruit and Veggies are 0 points!

This plan is about being healthy and happy.
And my Personal goal is to become more fit for my sport - Roller Derby.
Practice starts next Tuesday. Oy Vey; this gonna be a rought one.

Gym-Torn

I canceled my gym membership a few months ago. and it really sucks. I miss it.
So I've contemplated getting a new gym membership.

I'm faced with the question, which gym do I choose.
I prefer the all women's gym at Goodlife, and the 20 minute circuit set they have.
But I prefer the Zumba classes and the friends I've made at the YMCA Gym.

It is just so hard to choose.
and time is ticking down to the wedding day, and I need to seriously increase my fitness levels to get back in shape.

Which one do I pick.....

Diet & Cravings

I hate Dieting!
Who doesnt.
But with a Wedding in just 5 Months, I need to tone up! This means less bad snacks, less wine, less cupcakes, less of everything I love to eat. and most of all, less sugar! Sugar is my nemisis.

One of my main rules is - if it tastes bad, im not eating it! This limits a lot of what I will eat...
I'm also bad for - "If I'm craving it, I'm going to eat it! no matter what".

Here's some healthy substitutions for crazy cravings:

Crunchy salty snacks - a coworkder was eating salty nachoes and dip.and then She offered me one. *all I could think was, I hate You right now!*
Fix - I took one, because I would not get that craving to go away otherwise. but I stopped there. and finished it off with this, 10 Almonds. The Almonds give you the crunchy chewy satisfaction without all the salt and bad carbs.

Sweet Treats - Cupcakes and donuts
Fix - try and curb this with a banana or cup of fruit. It's the healthy surgars your body need with the sweet taste. I also like to mix fruit and yogurt together. This is my go to for treat cravings.

Also, Peanut Banana Protien shakes! This is just like cake in a cup, but super healthy for you.

Bored Snacking - When I am bored I like to eat.... this is so bad and so hard to curb.
Fix - I've cut out the crackers and nachoes and moved to grapes. I always have grapes at my work desk and in the fridge at home.

Eating Out -
Fix - Don't Do It! lol - as if. right? I love my social time, and eating out is the main way humans socialize together. So, I've taken to trying to choose healthier options.
But lets be serious, that never actually works. The BBQ Nachoes always call my name!
So I mentally cut my plate in half, and either take half home, or share with someone. It's all about portion control. You can eat whatever you want, as long as you moderate the really bad foods.

Follow up with Water. Lots of it! Flush those bad carbs out by drinking a big glass of water after every bad meal you eat. Order a glass with every dish and make sure you drink it!
Even more important, go one for one with alcohol. 1 glass of wine, then 1 glass of water. Repeat.

If you have tips or tricks to help me curb my cravings, I'd love to hear them!

Girlfriends Guide to Fit and Fabulous

Here is my secret to buns of steel, and how I stay fabulous.

I'm a girl who does not love to sweat. The only work out I do without cringing is Roller Derby Practice. It's fast paced, high intensity, and you learn a new trick at almost every practice. And the outfits are way more exciting. I don't do sweat pants well, so this gives me the perfect opportunity to get a workout while wearing fish nets, tutus and skimpy booty shorts. The big key to roller skating is the position in which you skate - the squat position. This works out your thighs and legs muscles like crazy, as you hold that position for close to an hour each practice.

And when I'm not on skates, I'm in heels. Heels instantly make your leg muscles pop. They make you look and feel sexier. I've been known for walking my dog up hill in heels. I love the burn it gives; it's like a constant stair master.
And Dancing with the girls is always a must in heels. after a night at the bar, I can feel my legs ready to give out on me as I hoof it up the last mile of hill back to my house.

Roller Skates and High Heels. These two things are how I keep myself trim and toned. it's simple and it works. No grungy gym with juice monkey men staring at me. No long sweaty hours on a treadmill. Just simple fun.

My Comeback!

When Big D. broke up with me, his reasoning was this - "Your Hair is flat. It used to be big and fun. And I've lost the spark..."

Well Bitch... I've lost 12 inches - thanks to my Fabulous Personal Trainer at ELEMENTAL Health & Fitness Consulting (elemental.healthfitness@gmail.com) - and got a fab make-over.

Look Who's Spark-less now!

I can fix my hair. You can't fix your shitty personality!

And Tonight, I Go Back to Roller Derby!
I took a short leave to fix my broken heart. and I'm so excited to start up again! My Derby Sisters have been an amazing support system, both on and off track. Here's my new Derby-Girl Promo Pic!

I may fall. But I will always get back up!

Cheers, To being Single and Fabulous!

Eat, Shred, be Sexy

I've been working out with my Personal Trainer for about a month now.

I LOVE the weights! and I Hate Running! (oops thats a negative..) But it Feels Good After!

I seem to shred easily. I call it my Exotica-tabolism. (yup. just made that up) and I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

The keys to my diet right now are:

  • low sodium,

  • no sugars, (wine or candy :P)

  • and eating bad foods - if any - for lunch;

  • then eating nothing but healthy fruit and veggies for the rest of the day.

  • No Stress Eating Allowed! If I feel bad about eating a certain food, then I'm not allowed to eat it, and opt for a fruit or veggie instead. -Because when you stress eat, your body goes into shock, and stores everything in fat , as if you are going through the appocolips. Not Good!

The Big Question: have I cheated? hahahaha. well, what do you think? I'm no A+ student, but I am trying.

My Goal: Fit into that "Carrie" dress I bought for my Bachelorette; and Wear it to my Blinged-Out Birthday Bash!

Move your Body

Time to get in shape. I have fallen off the wagon and tumbled into a big fat mess! I had set a goal to lose those yucky pounds before x-mas; and half succeeded, by losing 15 pounds before meeting the new in-laws. I had lots of confidence and felt great! then Christmas hit, and the good food flowed like the Nile river. haha. I haven't recovered....

So I bought Shape-ups and have been using them often. and I have super cute track suits for working out from Christmas. Now it's time to step it up and get back on the food and work out issues. I'm going to call this my "Fit Fix" blog topic. All things diet related.

My mother told me about Acai berry diet aids. So I went to my "guy" who runs a "health products store". it's one of those questionable encounters, but he knows a lot and has tips and tricks that really helped me last time!

So I'm doing the Acai Berry Cleanse. changing my bad food habits. with lots of walking, and weights! I love doing weights. it's like the hidden secret for most women. We stick to cardio and don't tone our muscles, which are the body part that burn the most fat and calories!

Summer season is coming and I have a new Louis Vuitton bikini I need to fit into! and a friends wedding in September! Time to really get off my bum and work it!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

So I've been going to the gym. somewhat faithfully every week. Today I was feeling really good. got there early, and looking all funk in my sweet pink zebra print sweater. i turn to the bench to put on my gym shoes, and low and behold; It was a full frontal of a nake woman! I didnt hear her come in behind me, I was shocked.
it's okay do 'do your thing' at the gym. and yes we're an all womend gym... but I'm still a prude and very unhappy with myself, enough to keep myself, to myself. So when faced with another womans...full frontal affairs; i was taken quite by surprise.
I turned away so quickly i didnt really get a good look at anything; the only bad remnants in my mind now are the vast density of what was her lower rain forest! it was just sooo much... i didnt know we still had hppies; and in this day and age of aids a HPV, you'd think everyone would consider cleaning up down there?
so in short i'm slightly scared from the gym now.

Today I Hate Myself...

This morning, the Beau asked me if i was gaining weight... it was horrible... I hate myself today because of this stupid little comment. mostly because I've been going to the gym, and trying to get back on track with my life; but it seems futile...I'm an "Emotional Eater" according to this new test I took....So I'm am posting a BEFORE picture here to remind me of what I hate and why I have to keep going. Hopefully at the end of it all, i will be able to post a fabulous AFTER Picture...here's hoping.

for those of you who need some extra help; i found this awesome website this morning to help me. maybe it can help you too; so far I really like it!
