Try Somethign New: Chiropractic Helth

Today I traded in my fears of Doctors and therapists, and bad news, for help with my aches and pains. Specifically on Knee and back pains.

I went to see a Chiropractor.
We did:
- a Beginning Assessment, where I professed my whoas and bad habits of all sorts.
- acupuncture electrical stimulation therapy - which was freekin' weird! But he claims it will be worth it tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on that one...
- short massage and bend movements - He cracked my back like 4 times! which made me feel so good! I'm a big ball of tense! ick.
- and Knee Taping - to re-align my bad knee.

The big one for me was, what I have dubbed "Shock therapy" , Electro-Acupuncture  on my knees. *My knees are shot from over 3 years of constant bad falls in Roller Derby.
The Doctor put a couple tiny needles into each of my knees, and hooked up tiny amp thingys to each one. Like a tiny human car battery booster.

He then gave me a hand-held-control which had dials that turned up the electrical pulse on the needles in my knees. I was to turn up the shock as high as I possibly could. We did this for about 5 minutes(because I'm a pussy and didn't want to do it anymore). It was the most strange thing I have ever felt. Kind of like pins and needles when your limb falls asleep, But with more constant vibrating.

Here are some Scholarly Articles on Electro-Acupunture from Google Scholar.

If you haven't tried this for your aches and pains, It may or may not work for you. but It sure is interesting to try if you are open to the idea.

Trial: Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle & UV Damage Corrector

I've Tried Something New! I have been testing a new Clinique Product in one of their free trials

I signed up for a free skin consultation and trial of their new product. On the first skin consultation I was given a little bottle about 3 inches tall with a magical lotion inside.

I like the trial bottle, because it had small measurement marks on the back to show each day how much you should have used. So I would know if I was using too much or too little based on the marks over a few days.

Twice a Day, for 2 Weeks, I must put on this UV & Wrinkle Repair face lotion. After 2 weeks, I went back for a second Skin consultation and trade in my small sample bottle for a Free Second Bottle.

Retails for: $47.50 USD for a 30ml Bottle up to $132.00 USD per 100ml bottle

I LOVE Clinique and this is a pretty awesome score for me. (Some of you know how much I love to Tan, and this stuff is a great pre- and -post lotion for that)

I found I used a lot less lotion than what I would use in my normal cheap-brand face lotions.  It did go pretty far/lasted long with little used each time.
Felt smooth, went on easily and absorbed well.
Did not leave me feeling greasy.
I did not have any type of bad reaction to it.

Over all satisfaction with it:
I really liked it. 10 out of 10. My skin feels and looks great after 2 weeks of this stuff. I didnt need to use my other face lotions as I was using this twice a day and it was enough to keep me moisturized and feeling clean all day long.

Crafty Queen

I've been inspired by one cool mom.
She's over at "All this For Them" making tons of cute things for her kids, and some things for herself too.

I have the sewing bug! I may have found that "something new" I was looking for to fill my upcoming extra time. I want to buy a sewing maching and learn to sew. All kinds of things! Toys, gifts, Accessories, Cute kids things.  This will be fun. This blog reminded me of years ago when my mother would sew me clothes as a very little girl. I have many happy memories and photos of things she did. and I think this would be a great thing for us to share.

now...I just need to get a sewing machine.

Here's some of my favorite things from "All This For Them"
"Mommy and Me" shirts. How cute is that!

I Love Love LOVE this little top! A must try. It's too cute, and She said she did it in a revisible style too! how perfect.

I love the story of the lumpy bumpy turtle. Anything I made would probably look kinda like this too.

The coolest little boys shirt ever. What kid wouldn't love this.

I wonder how crafty I can be. I'm excited to give some of these thnigs a try.

Whole 30 Challenge

The

I'm still alive. But life has been particularly hard this past week.
In short, I spent some quality time in the hospital having lots of blood work done and feeling like utter crap. and now it's time for a big life change.

I'm starting with this: the Whole 30 Challenge. It's about eating clean and feeling rejuvenated.
This should be easy compared to the other things I will be soon giving up. One of them being roller derby. I've been told I can play for 1 more month, and then... if I want to be healthy in my life choices, I need to take a roller-break. *insert sadface here*

All things must come to an ... end... just for a little while.
Now I must find new ways to fill my time. So The Whole 30 Challenge will be an inspiring start to new things.

What new things should I add to my life list?
-my Hubby's work have a great Scuba Diving course. I'm going to try this I think.
- I am going to join Pump Classes at my gym, and do some light weight lifting to build up my muscles.
- I might take up a new craft. still not sure what this should be. Maybe jewelry making?

What can You do in 30 Days?

I have seen 30 Day Challenges before.
Most of the time they are not too interesting.

Then I found this link, which has something for everyone:

I have a "Cozy House" problem. I like my "things" a little too much. and so, Im going on a spending diet. wish me luck!

The customer smiled at me and said "Yes It is! I definitely recommend it"

And So I did.
And it was delicious!

Vegan Wedding Cupcakes

I have many friends who are Vegitarian and Vegan.
I myself am a "sometimes-vegitarian".
I am no activist, but I prefer vegitarian options if given them. I just don't like the taste of meat.
Weird, I know, but it works for me.

and so for my wedding, I am going to have as many tastful veggie options as possible.

Vegan is the more challenging plate to fill.

I have compiled a list of some great Vegan Appetisers; and here's a recepe I am going to try this week: Vegan Mini Cheese 'n Chive Muffins

and then stumbled upon this wonderful site with many cupcake ideas for any occasion:
Vegan CupCake Recipes

Wish me luck on Trying Something New!

The man who lived on Guinness and Bananas

A man lived on Guinness Beer and Bananas for 10 months and was healthy after that?
I learned a man did this. and had to research it a bit more.

... then I found this 'statement' :
"You can survive for longer on a diet of cows milk and onions."

here are many statements by individuals that Guinness beer can be a cure to many things:  http://www.guardian.co.uk/notesandqueries/query/0,5753,-25264,00.html

who are these people who have the time to "test" these theories!?! seriously.

Office Space Happy Place

Lets face it. no one likes to work. We work because we have to. I tend to get stressed easily by work, or the lack-of. If I feel unproductive in my job or struggle with a particular task I tend to be even more stressed. and sometimes the monotony of life and work drag you down. So I went in search of fun, happy, and inspiring items for my office space. work doesn't have to be hard or unhappy. Love what you do and the rest will fall into place.

 Here's what I found:

From a Website called Office Playground

Don't just play an ordinary game of thumb wrestling at the office—challenge your co-workers to play Thumb Sumo!

Team Work Magnet Men - How Cute are they!

Hoberman Expanding Sphere
I want one of these! Reminds me of "The Office" Micheal's Desk toys.

BuckyBalls
Have these in a Hot Pink color and love them!

Butterfly in a Jar - sound and battery powered
Bought this Yesterday and love it! The perfect desk pet, and no baby sitter or feeding needed for Holidays and days off :)

Feng Shui for your office
I also read somewhere that having rocks on your desk will help create a "solid foundation". I believe it was a Feng Shui book. Rocks create stability and strength in your job and ability to work productively.
Psychology with Clients and coworkers - Having rocks on your desk gives visitors and clients a feeling that you are strong and reliable "like a rock".

Rock Bonsai Tree, also from Office Playground.

Rocks on my desk, picked up at the local Market :)
1. Rock split in 2 which holds a tea light inside; and 2. a pen holder rock
Functional and Fabulous!

You don't have to go very far to deck out your office space either! I wandered into a little boutique downtown called "Geek Chic"  and then into Chapters to find my fun office items. and they had lots of other fun office gadgets too.

And on my shopping adventure, if found THIS book:

The Book Of Awesome: Snow Days, Bakery Air, Finding Money In Your Pocket, And Othersimple, Brilliantthings

Happy thoughts bring happiness to life.

and nothing cures the work blues like a good dose of shopping :D (or a big glass of wine )
Shop on my friends!

Flash Mob: Cross it off the Bucket List!

I took part in a Flash Mob!

Whats a FlashMob?
This is when a group of people come together, learn a dance, and execute it in a public place at a secret time and location.

Here We are with Start Up Canada for Entrepreneurship, FlashMob Fredericton, in front of City Hall!

I tricked SpitFire into going downtown with me, and surprising him with the flash mob. I told him I had to meet a friend downtown for coffee. Once we got downtown, there was a set up infront of City Hall. not very conspicuous, with loud speakers and people waiting around.

SpitFire turned and looked at me, and said: "Whats going on down here?"
Me: "Oh Hunny, it's probly just a protest of some sort. You know how Fredericton people are..."
and he shrugged it off.

But people from my FlashMob/Zumba Class kept saying "Hi" to me, and totally gave it away. So he caught on right before it happened! and at this point I became the coolest girlfriend on the planet.

This was SO MUCH FUN!!!!

Try Something New: Jamming - Roller Derby

My Roller derby team has started cross training everyone so that our next season will have many skilled and flexible players.I'm  more of a Bruiser and Blocker kinda girl. So the though of Jamming has always been one I find highly intimidating.

Tonight, at our Open House, we did some mock bouts and I Jammed twice! and it was a hell of a good time!
Finding those holes, dodging hits, and flying high speed around the track was as exciting as skydiving!

But I have a long way to go with endurance training before I can be a really good Jammer. It's time to start working on my speed and technique. and perhaps cutting back on my bad food habits :P Less wine, more veggies.

Here are some highlights from my last Bout: Daisy Cutters Vs. Daughters of Anarchy August 2011 - Pictures by Roy Crawford Photography & Stephen Galpin

Sky Dive Delayed, so We Party!

Due to bad weather, my sky dive jump has been pushed back. and this weekend doesn't look too promising. Cross your fingers for me that the weather clears up and I get to go in the next 2 weeks!!!

While this news sucks, I have good news to share as well.
I met with my lawyer for the last time on Wednesday! That shmuck of a man I almost married is now officially signed off of my life forever. Life is good.

I have a man friend who also recently signed his last separation documents. He has one of our sad soldier stories - was in Afghanistan when he found out his wife was cheating on him. So he came home to try and save his marriage. It was un-salvageable. Him and I were going through the motions of separation at the same time, and in this I found an amazing friend to lean on.

And So, tonight we are getting together to celebrate with all of our friends how single and fabulous we are! Wish us the night of a lifetime!

Saggy Pants Trends

I saw this post on FB today and had to further investigate:
"To all you idiots who "sag" your pants and show your butt and underwear....did you know it originated in prison? It was a signal to the other MEN that you are "available". So if you wanna keep going around looking like your "available" for another dude to "tap that"... then keep thinking your cool while I think you look like a Tool!!! BTW they call it PBS (Prison Bitch Syndrome) :) repost if u think this is funny!!! ..............AND PULL UP YOUR DAMN PANTS!!!!! Fez Thinks it "
So I googled a few sources, blogs, research, definitions and chat board discussions. From which I pulled these tidbits of testimony to the trend.

Wikipedia
(how I love you) Says

Origin - Lee D. Baker, Dean of Academic Affairs at Duke University, states that it is widely believed that sagging was adopted from the United States prison system where belts are prohibited.[3]Belts are sometimes prohibited to keep prisoners from using them as weapons or in committing suicide by hanging themselves.[4][5] The style was later popularized by hip-hop[4] It has since become a symbol of freedom and cultural awareness among many youths[6] or a symbol of their rejection of the values of mainstream society.[7] artists in the 1990s.

Sandra E Graham also agrees with this definition in her post
The Origin and Purpose for the Baggy, Saggy Pants (Mens/Boys) Fashion

And this special Chart depicting fines for saggy pants:

And a past Inmate tells us here -Answers.com - that "sagging" in fact has nothing to do with the belt, and everything to do with being "available" to other men.

On Snopes.com sagging is much further defined and researched, to include both theories of sagging stemming from the badly fashioned prison garb and the gay prison population expressing availability.

So them's the loose facts of the day kids. I learned something new!

Life, Choices, Changes, and the Men who hold me back

Ever have that friend who has so much potential in life, and could do anything or go anywhere; But they dont, because they are following a man around?

I'm that friend.

I've recently been made aware of this fact.
As shocking as it is to realize that I let others make my life choices for me; I still lack the courage to venture out into my own pathway through life. afraid I may end up alone.

I defend myself by saying, I'm a sucker for love. I live for the day when I may find a man who fits neatly into my faux-perfect life. I'm hopelessly chasing the red dragon called love.
which brings me to my current dilemma.
I've been ever so persuasively talked into teaching abroad. The travel, and accommodations would be paid for. I would be able to pay off many of my recently incurred debt. and the experience of a lifetime awaits.
But...
I've met a new man who has so much potential to be the one for me. (I know I sound ridiculous and cliche) I've hit a honeymoon period in my new relationship; and I am scared of letting it go. Perhaps there will be many more loves in this life. But I'm so enthralled with this man already, I dread leaving him behind and perhaps making a mistake in love. I am again that girl who has potentially put her life on hold for a man.

Do I Stay or Do I Go?

SkyDiving

Sky Diver killed after missing landing spot.

This news came out on Saturday of this past weekend. It's the same spot that my friends and I have booked our jump.
Scary? Yes!
Should We still Jump?
Will We still jump? Yes I think so. It wouldn't be a thrill if there wasn't the risk.
I feel that if I back out now; I may never take the opportunity or get the chance again.

This summer has been full of ridiculous and exciting adventures. I've done so many new and exciting things. and I've expanded my horizons vastly. The odds are, our jump will be safe.

It's all or nothing. If you don't give it a try. you will definitely end up with nothing.

Try Something New: DIY Beauty Products

Tonight I "stumbled upon" this great little site, and had to share it with you all!

Make Different beauty items from scratch. and they are easy too!

http://www.good.is/post/how-to-make-your-own-beauty-products-from-scratch/

I love the :
Simple body scrub

Many body scrubs, even the ones that claim to be sugar- or salt-based, actually contain beads made out of polyethylene, which is environmentally deplorable (it all goes down the drain, remember)—to say nothing of the preservatives, fragrance, penetration enhancers, and sulfates that typically bulk up these products. Instead, head to your kitchen. Grab a bowl and combine a quarter cup of any oil you like (I like olive best), an eighth of a cup of coarse brown sugar, same amount of salt, and an essential oil you love. Vanilla seems to me the can't-beat option for smell, but go with your favorite. And if you have dry skin, a sunburn, or eczema, leave out the salt and double up the sugar.
